I gained a lot of service, volunteer work, and job experience throughout my high school and current college years. The most important experience I have gained is through my job. As mentioned before I am a nursing assistant at a nursing home and have worked there for four years. Throughout those four years I have gained leadership experience in the workplace. I have been a mentor and a trainer for new employees as well as made decisions in the workplace that affect the residents.
I did gain a couple of non-LHSI experiences in my fall semester. One skill I'd like to say I improved of was balance. I had a couple of harder classes in the fall and as well as being VP of Recruitment for my sorority. The load work for the position increased from the previous position I had before. I also had to find time in between to work. I had to use time management skills and prioritize the more important things first before I worked on something else. I used a planner and that helped me manage my time and balance everything I had going on. I eventually got the accustomed to a routine and stuck with it. I felt very productive being busy but also found time for myself in between.
My current strengths as a team member are being able to communicate information, work in groups, be a leader, ask questions, and time management. I also think a strong strength I show is that I adapt easy to change and can work under stressful environments.
The kind of team member I was this year, was collecting and coding data. My role changed over the year by at first having to watch and learn how to code. As I progressively moved on, I got to code and do what the other team members were doing. As a professional, I am a people person and love to engage and talk when I feel comfortable to. I like to get to know people beyond work and form a relationship to make working easier. This usually does not work in most cases, but when appropriate it can be a very fun work setting! I have grown into this role by getting to meet and work with a lot of people of different educational backgrounds.
