We aim to bring together researchers and practitioners to explore the benefits and challenges of designing playful and ethical child-AI systems.
The invited keynote speakers, Dr. Angela Colvert and Dr. Kruakae Pothong, will introduce and facilitate the use of the ``Playful by Design'' tool, including its play boards to engage participants in considering the tensions, complexities, and possibilities of designing for a variety of playful, yet ethical and (child) rights-respecting systems.
This hands-on workshop invites researchers at all stages to engage in reflections on how to balance competing design priorities with ethical and rights-respecting design choices whilst designing playful experiences into future AI systems.
Participants will be asked to submit a 1-2 page reflection that introduces themselves, the kind of research they do, and why they are interested in participating in this workshop. It will also ask them to reflect on one of the many tensions between playfulness and upholding children's rights with AI systems. We are not expecting you to present any results or a specific project.
The submission will be reviewed by the organizers only. Based on your acceptance, you will be asked to produce a poster that introduces you and your work broadly to the other participants at the workshop. On the workshop day, participants will present their reflection articles in a poster format which will be used to organize participants into groups for the interactive games.
We hope that this workshop will promote hands-on experiences for participants to explore ways in which they can incorporate playful and ethical approaches when designing child-AI systems!
