HIPs in the States @ the Assessment Institute
HIPs in the States @ the Assessment Institute
The Assessment Institute, hosted by IUPUI and usually held in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the oldest and largest higher education event in the United States focused on assessment and improvement. In 2021, we will once again offer complimentary registration to members of the higher education community as our way of supporting colleagues facing travel restrictions and resource constraints associated with these challenging times. Because we are offering complimentary registration in 2021, we anticipate several thousand registered attendees! In 2020, registration exceeded 10,000 registered attendees. This record-breaking attendance truly positioned IUPUI’s Assessment Institute as the global gathering place focused on higher education assessment and improvement.
We would like to extend to you and your colleagues an invitation to join us for the 2021 Assessment Institute, held virtually, October 24-27, 2021. All sessions will be delivered virtually via a Zoom Webinar platform. The Assessment Institute, hosted by IUPUI and usually held in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the nation’s oldest and largest higher education event of its type, offering more than 200 educational sessions. Please consider submitting a proposal on or before the priority deadline of March 1, 2021.
To support the development of proposals for the 2021 conference, we are offering a concise and targeted professional development series during the month of February to facilitate conversation and ideation, and to generate quality submissions in four key areas for the HIPs in the States track. Based on the sessions and discussion at the 2020 Assessment Institute, and prior HIPs in the States conferences, there are several areas in the field that we believe are prime for further exploration and research. The field, and most especially, our students, could benefit greatly from identifying and disseminating successful strategies and research on these topics:
Delivery and assessment of high-impact practices in online or hybrid modalities (curricular and co-curricular)
Intentional efforts to make HIPs more equitable through social and racial justice, including developing HIPs that take up social and racial justice issues as well as high impact instructional approaches that increase learning, retention, and post-graduation success for underrepresented student populations
Institutional scaling of high-impact experiences, including the tracking and assessment of student learning and success
Designing high-impact courses and experiences that are aligned to the central features of high-impact practices and experiences, with a focus on professional development, inclusiveness, and universal design
