I am a Junior studying biology with minors in medical sociology and chemistry. I chose biology as my major because I have always been extremely interested in the natural world. In my free time, I enjoy fish keeping and board game nights with friends!
I work well as a member of a team because I am a determined, driven, caring person. These characteristics mean I will do my best to ensure that the team succeeds because I not only care deeply about the well-being of my teammates but I am also motivated to produce the highest quality work that I possibly can. Through this internship, I have made a huge effort to be a team player because I can clearly see how important it is to support the lab as a whole.
This section contains my work history and the skills that I gained from each position. My most recent jobs have been research-centered which aligns best with my future career goals. I have enjoyed each of these experiences in unique ways, and they have helped to shape and narrow down my future career goals.
I began working at That Fun Place officially at the age of 15. My family opened this business when I was 3, so I grew up in a customer service centered environment. I was eventually promoted to a shift manager when I was 17. This was a huge responsibility at such a young age, but I learned a lot about what it means to be a leader. Through this experience, I gained a lot of confidence in my abilities and learned to work well under pressure. I also learned how it important it is to rely on your teammates and to play off of each other's strengths when working to accomplish tasks.
I was placed in the lab of Dr. Gregory Anderson my freshman year as a lab assistant. I really enjoyed this position because it was my first exposure to a real, functioning lab environment. During this experience, I discovered that I find research to be fascinating. I also realized I really enjoy the work environment that a lab provides. These were crucial discoveries for my future because they helped to shape my desire to work in a lab in the future. In this lab I learned sterile technique, autoclaving, and gel electrophoresis which are all highly useful skills for a research scientist.

I learned a lot about myself during this summer internship. I initially signed up for this position because it seemed interesting, but I also wanted to have an experience with field research. One of my main goals during my undergrad experience has been to try as many things as possible so that I can narrow down what I enjoy and what I don't. While I enjoyed most of this experience, I discovered that I need variety in my day-to-day work activities. When I was studying the bats, I went the same route everyday to collect the data. This was important to the study, but I realized that I do not enjoy doing exactly the same activities everyday. This discovery will largely shape my future career goals because I will be actively seeking positions that will provide some variety in the types of tasks and topics that I get to pursue.
