Hello! My Name is Drake Hester (he/him/his) and I am fortunate to be one of the 82 interns of the LHSI program this year! I am a Social Work major, working on a Psychology minor, along with a Child Abuse and Neglect Certificate. I want to work with children in the future, and broaden the scope of my knowledge of how to help children mentally with the problems they may face in school, family, and life! I have interned this year at Riley Children's Hospital under Dr. Seethal Jacob working with children who have been diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia.
In this ePortfolio, I'll be sharing what I've learned as an LHSI intern, and how I've grown as a person because of this experience.
Working with Dr. Jacob has been an insightful overview of working in the medical field. Through the LHSI program, I have learned how data is created from forms filled out by both clients and staff, how it is put into a database, and how the data is used professionally. I have interrupted multiple forms of data and appropriately organized them into both a REDCap Database and into Spreadsheets. I have also shadowed under the program social worker, seeing how Social Work is done through a medical setting. Below is slideshow which goes into more detail as to what I have done through LHSI!
