Honors I-CORE in Kelly School of Business

Introduction: All Kelley Students are required to take I-CORE to graduate, however as a part of the Honors College & Kelley Honors I did the honors version of this semester. This looked like additional content that was covered and tested in each class, and additional requirements in our semester long project.

During I-CORE we take four classes together. They focus on our core proficiencies in business, along with a group project over the semester. This project was to work with a real company to design a potential business venture. We worked with Meyer Fabrics, a local fabric wholesaler. This included market research, supply chain operations, financial viability, and potential capital expenditures & financial structure of the project. We produced deliverables that we then unified into a presentation to the company at the end of the semester.

Team Dynamics Deliverables:

For our team dynamics class we were tasked with creating deliverables, some being reflective and some creative. This is not an honors specific requirement, however I enjoyed making it. We created this video as a team, our assignment was focusing on highlighting how important team dynamics is in the workplace.

Finance Deliverables:

In our finance project we had an additional assignment of doing sensitivity analysis. Included below is a deliverable that calcluates, ultimarely that we believe this new venture was good financial idea.

Presenting to Mayer Fabrics:

This is our final presentation to the firm with our project. This aspect is unique to Kelley Indianapolis, and helps build relationships within the community, and provides us the students an additional level of reality within our education.

Reflection:

Through this experience, I developed a deeper understanding of everything that goes into making a business run. Beyond acquiring knowledge in specific subjects, I learned how to synthesize those subjects into a real-life example that was evaluated by a real firm for feedback. This Honors experience directly strengthened my career readiness because it not only gave me a wider view of business as a whole, but how to communicate between specialties, and real-world experience. I also got to work on my teamwork skills and how to analyze and apply team dynamics.
