Indiana University has an academic community called the Honors College. This is a community that gives student unique experiences to make their college career challenging, engaging, meaningful, and relevant. The Honors College and the introductory class have taught me what it truly means to be an honors student and a contributor to my community. The Honors College has allowed me to connect with many like minded peers and reflect on my personal goals and values.

During my freshman year I took an introducion to honors college which allowed me to explore my purpose and goals currently and in the future. In this section I discuss what I accomplished in 2022 during the introductory class and how I have changed throughout the last four years. Back in the introductory class I made statements about who I am and what I want for my future, I also had made a diagram discussing how I got to college and what I want for my future. Finally, I created a new presentation highlighting who I am today and I made a diagram exploring what I have accomplished during my college career.
I wrote the "I am" and "I want to become" statements in the Intro to Honors course in 2023. At that time I had so many wild goals and dreams. I wanted to study abroad, participate in every club and internship, I wanted to experience a little of everything. As I have aged and progressed in my academic career sometimes those things weren't feasible. I would love to do all of those things but it came down to time management and my priorities. When I was a freshman I had just come from a small town in Wisconsin where I was sheltered and had very little travel experience. Looking back and understanding where I came from it makes sense why I didn't want to sit still and I had so many plans. I was excited to be in a city, away from home, experiencing life for what felt like the first time. That's what fueled my statements.
When I first came to Indianapolis I was so focused on the "college experience" and how to make the most of my time as a college student. As I have grown I really came into my passions. I still absolutely adore school and learning but now I want to learn and experience adulthood. I want to never stop learning, but I need to take a step away from learning in a classroom and gain some hands-on experiences. I still plan to come back to school later in life. I found so many ambitions outside of school such as cooking, leading a team at work, caring for animals in need, and that I want to be closer to family. I am really excited to see where life takes me after graduation and I'm grateful for the experiences and people I have had throughout the last four years.
Journey Maps
In H200 I was prompted to create a map that highlights any interests, extracurriculars, and events that happened in my life that shaped me into who I am. When I made the original journey map I thought about everything that lead to who I was as a freshman at IUI. Growing up I loved music, school, and science which led to me pursing forensic chemistry and IUI's honors college. The journey map prompted me to examine the influential aspects of my life and how they were going to continue shaping my future.
Looking at my original journey map I had a lot of goals and aspirations. I managed to accomplish a lot in my time at IUI. I worked in a research laboratory. I became a recitation leader which gave me my love of teaching and taught me a lot about being a confident leader. I revisited passions I had growing up, and I took a bunch of classes that I loved which further solidified my career choice. When I came to IUI I was a very nervous freshman who wanted to keep to themselves but as I have progressed through college I have found new passions for teaching and collaborating to share new perspectives and ideas. I have accomplished a lot and I'm proud of myself. I can't wait to graduate and continue my journey post undergraduate.
