Carlsbad Caverns is a subterranean national park located in in New Mexico. The park is most famous for it's extensive cave systems, with each of the 119 caves formed by water and sulfuric acid dissolving limestone over millennia. As water percolated through the rock, it created large voids and complex passageways. The caves feature some of the largest caverns on the continent, with the Big Room being a notable attraction. In the summer, visitors can witness thousands of Brazilian Free-tail Bats emerge from the caves in search of food, and the above-ground nature of the park features desert landscapes like cacti and canyons.
