About the Internship
Workplace
The big picture of my supervisor's work is to research the sleep effects on minority children and the effects habits can have on young children in adult life. The change is to make minority families aware of how sleep and eating habits can heavily contribute to children's daily lives.
My current strengths as a team member include being able to communicate effectively and efficiently with my supervisor and team members. I must be able to convey information in a timely manner as certain tasks need to be completed on time.
Professionally, I want to be able to learn how to use research tools and technology, such as redcap. I also want to be able to gain more professional knowledge as I am exposed to a professional and interdisciplinary research lab. As a teammate, I want to be able to collaborate effectively with clinical psychologists, developmental psychologists, and MDs, as well as my fellow research assistants.
My Abstract
At the Healthy Sleep for Kids Lab, I helped conduct future interviews with underrepresented and minority families to understand the feeding and sleep schedules of their children. By conducting interviews, the research lab can better understand how their child's sleep and feeding schedules may later contribute to the development of sleep disorders.
