Over the past four years at IU Indianapolis, what I assumed would be my journey here was far from what did occur throughout my time here. Experiencing numerous opportunities I couldn't have imagined and achieving academic success truly highlighted my time in the Honors College and enabled me to accomplish the majority of the goals I had set for myself as a sophomore. A journey map is a visual and reflective tool that outlines experiences, goals, challenges, and growth over time to illustrate how a person’s path develops and evolves. As a sophomore, the journey map I had made outlined where I had come from experience-wise as well as what I hoped I would be able to achieve during my time in the Honors College. Reflecting upon this map, I have created a new journey map detailing the actualized journey I had through the Honors College. Please take a look!
When I first started at IU Indianapolis as a freshman, I remember thinking, “I have plenty of time, no need to rush into things.” I remember thinking that everything would simply happen eventually, not really putting any thought into pursuing any extracurriculars or internships myself. It wasn’t until I got an email from the NEUROP internship stating that they still had room for students that I decided to actually work on something, and to my surprise, I was accepted. Little did I know that applying and getting accepted into that summer research internship would change the entire trajectory of my undergraduate years.
I am immensely pleased and honored with the things I have been able to accomplish, not only through my countless opportunities within my research project, but also through my immersion in the Honors College program (although I started later than students traditionally do). Being able to complete certain honors projects, such as a literature review and case studies on fascinating diseases, has provided me with a breadth of knowledge and ensuing curiosity that has continuously driven me throughout my undergraduate career. Thanks to the Honors College’s experiences and support system, I was able to successfully apply and get accepted to continue my neuroscience studies in the United Kingdom!
