Career Goals

I am currently in the the first semester of my junior year majoring in biology and a minor in chemistry. I have aspirations of attending medical school after completion of my undergrad. I have always had a strong science and was fortunate enough to have several internship experiences that reinforced by desire to stay within the medical feild. In highschool, I had the opportunity to work in an emergency room which exposed me to a variety of medical proessions. Shortly after that, I worked alongside a pharmacist, and quickly knew that was not where my intrests reside. I formally played soccer at Bradley University prior to transfering to IUPUI. As a student athlete you are constantly exposed to many sports related medial professionsal. I beleive much of my sports health focused interest stemmed from growing up playing playing sports. This is why I wanted to work in Dr. Schlecht’s lab. I personally know many individuals who have suffered from ACl injuries. If ruptured, this is a very serious injury that often disallows the affected indivual to compete for an extened period of time. If you follow sports, there is a good chance one if not more of the athletes on your favorite team have suffered a torn ACL. Wihtiin my placement I hope to learn more on how to prevent and recover ACL injuries, and maybe even one day work with ACL injury patients.

This summer I hope to continue being involved with clinical research in some capacity. I enjoy aspects and understand its underlying implications to medical interventions seen in human patient care. I am currently scheduled to take the MCAT this summer as well. Much of my time leading up to the big test will be spent studying and preparing for the MCAT. After taking the MCAT, I plan on working and traveling. I am looking forward to taking some time for myself and taking it easy. I think it is extremely important to take this time. Being a pre-med undergraduate student, especially with the rigors of studying for the MCAT, can be very stressful. Taking some time for yourself and detoxing from the demands of medical school admissions is what enables me to stay motivated throughout the semester.
