About Root Robots
Root Robots, developed by iRobot, are designed to introduce students to coding and robotics in a hands-on, engaging way. They are versatile educational tools that can grow with students, offering a range of activities that span from simple block-based coding to more advanced text-based programming.
Multi-Level Coding: Root Robots support three levels of coding:
Level 1: Block-based coding, suitable for beginners.
Level 2: Hybrid coding with blocks and text, bridging the gap for intermediate learners.
Level 3: Full text-based coding, ideal for advanced students who are ready for more complex programming.
Drawing Capabilities: Root can draw on whiteboards or paper using a built-in marker holder, allowing students to create designs, write code that results in visual art, or explore geometry and patterns.
Sensors and Actuators: Equipped with multiple sensors, Root can detect touch, light, color, and magnetic fields. It also features bump sensors, cliff detection, and sound capabilities, enabling interactive and responsive coding activities.
Climbing Ability: Root Robots can climb on vertical magnetic surfaces like whiteboards, adding a unique dimension to coding challenges and activities.
Music and Sound: Root can play sounds and create music, allowing students to explore the intersection of coding and creativity by programming melodies and sound effects.
Compatibility with iOS Devices: The Root Coding App is compatible with iOS devices, providing a seamless interface for coding and controlling the robot.
Progressive Learning: Root Robots cater to a wide range of skill levels, making them suitable for students from early elementary to high school. As students advance, they can move from block-based coding to text-based programming, ensuring continuous growth in their coding skills.
Interactive and Engaging: The ability to draw, climb, and respond to its environment makes Root an engaging tool for learning. Students can visualize their code in action, whether it’s creating a drawing, solving a maze, or composing music.
Creativity and Problem-Solving: Root encourages creativity by allowing students to design their own coding projects. The robot’s versatile features, such as drawing and climbing, present unique problem-solving challenges that inspire innovative thinking.
