Q: How is Coaching different than therapy?
A: Coaching with It's Your Story will focus on elements from your past that are impacting your present and future through a lens of self-acceptance and understanding. Within this framework, areas of past trauma may emerge. Our traumas, our families, our culture, and so much more impacts who we are today.
The unique lens of coaching takes these markers in your story and focuses on creating practical steps forward. Should areas of trauma need deeper work, I recommend working with a local trauma therapist for maximum breakthrough.
As your Story Coach, I am committed to your personal breakthrough. I am a licensed therapist in my home state and am trained in several forms of therapy. For trauma specifically, I am a trained EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) therapist. This training is an asset for my coaching clients.
Q: What do you mean "story work"
A: Story work involves clients being able to take a good look back at their lives, make connections to themes that come up, and create a narrative for self-reflection and acceptance. To be able to effectively understand and tell our stories creates a sense of freedom to be who you were made to be.
Q: Can I continue with my regular therapist?
A: Absolutely! Many clients utilize It's Your Story in tandem with their ongoing therapy, particularly if they are working through trauma. There are also elements of our story that are very sensitive, and it can be challenging to open up even to a therapist about for fear of judgment. Alternative lifestyles, spirituality and interests are welcome! These elements of your story deserve to be discovered and named as you journey throughout your life.
Q: What does a "discreet" session look like?
A: Some topics can feel very tender and sensitive. Often, clients worry about naming these things while looking at another person. I offer the option to have cameras off sessions to help clients feel more comfortable processing some of their story.
