Oscar Mario Miranda-Villanueva es Profesor Asistente e Investigador de la Escuela de Humanidades y Educación (EHE) del Tecnológico de Monterrey. Es Investigador Nacional Nivel I, reconocimiento otorgado por el Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores (SNII) de la Secretaría de Ciencia, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación (Secihti).

Fue asistente e investigador doctoral en el Centro de Investigación en Comunicación e Información (CINCO), bajo la dirección del Prof. José Carlos Lozano Rendón (2008–2011) y del Prof. Francisco Javier Martínez Garza (2011–2015). A lo largo de su trayectoria ha colaborado con investigadores del Instituto Lingüístico de Verano; del Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas–UNAM; de la Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (UPN); de la Universidad de Sonora (UNISON); del CITRIS Policy Lab de la Universidad de California en Berkeley; de la Universidad de California en Davis y de la Universidad de Guadalajara a través del proyecto Humanizando la deportación; del Tampere Peace Research Institute (TAPRI) y del Tampere Research Group for Cultural and Political Sociology (TCuPS) de la Universidad de Tampere, donde realizó estancias de investigación con el Prof. Pertti Alasuutari (2012–2013); y de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), con el Prof. Juan Antonio Doncel de la Colina.

De agosto a diciembre de 2026 realizó un periodo sabático en la Universidad de Quebec en Montreal con el Prof. Paul R. Carr, y en la Universidad de Lakehead con el Prof. Michael Hoechsmann. De julio de 2023 a junio de 2027, codirige la sección de Estudios de Educación en Medios (MER) de la Asociación Internacional de Estudios de Comunicación Social (AIECS/IAMCR).

Oscar Mario Miranda-Villanueva is an Assistant Professor and Researcher at the School of Humanities and Education (EHE) at Tecnológico de Monterrey. He holds the distinction of National Researcher Level I, granted by the National System of Researchers (SNII) of the Secretaría de Ciencia, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación (Secihti).

He served as doctoral research assistant at the Centro de Investigación en Comunicación e Información (CINCO), working under Prof. José Carlos Lozano Rendón (2008–2011) and Prof. Francisco Javier Martínez Garza (2011–2015). Throughout his career he has collaborated with researchers from institutions including the Summer Institute of Linguistics; the Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas–UNAM; the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (UPN); the Universidad de Sonora (UNISON); the CITRIS Policy Lab at the University of California, Berkeley; the University of California, Davis and the Universidad de Guadalajara through the Humanizing Deportation project; the Tampere Peace Research Institute (TAPRI) and the Tampere Research Group for Cultural and Political Sociology (TCuPS) at the University of Tampere, where he carried out research stays with Prof. Pertti Alasuutari (2012–2013); and the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), with Prof. Juan Antonio Doncel de la Colina.

From August to December 2026, he completed a sabbatical at the Université du Québec à Montréal with Prof. Paul R. Carr, and at Lakehead University with Prof. Michael Hoechsmann. From July 2023 to June 2027, he co-directs the Media Education Research (MER) section of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR).
