In article number 230004, Shivesh Sabbarwal, Manoj Kumar and co-workers from Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi (https://iitbhu.ac.in/dept/che/people/manojkche) show that unreacted CaCO3 clusters with thiolates can be crystallized into calcite and CaS crystals within a small thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) furnace. Transition from low (55 °C) to high (500 °C) temperature results in the initiation of nucleation of CaCO3 phase (150–200 °C, low temperature), followed by an exponential increment in nucleation rate (at 150 to 450 °C) due to increase in interfacial energy between the carbonate (CO32−) and calcium (Ca 2+) ions. Finally, complete crystal formation occurs at 500 °C, with maximum nucleation rate.
