Battle of the Books is a friendly reading competition open to all 4th and 5th grade students. Teams of students read titles from a pre-selected list of 25-30 notable and award winning children's books. The books reflect a broad range of themes and reading levels and are available at both the Franzen LMC and the Itasca Community Library. The program culminates in 2 exciting rounds of competition in February. Students who participate in the program enjoy reading, getting to know their teammates, and testing their knowledge in the final game. It is great fun and everyone is encouraged to participate!
Students are encouraged to take notes while reading. This will help to refresh your memory before the battle, and is essential for your team in the event you are unable to attend a battle. Study guides for note taking can be found in the LMC or you can get a printable study guide here.
