MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Student Athletes and Coaches,

A warm Leopards Welcome to the International School of Uganda.  We hope you have a great experience engaging with  members of the ISSEA school community.

When I watch volleyball practices and games as part of our ISSEA network I am always encouraged by the coaches and players and how they give feedback to each other, and encourage each other to grow and develop skills.  This also rings true with the different supporters whether it be parents or classmates.  A culture of wanting to grow as individuals and as a team.  When I was in grade 10 in order to pass the volleyball unit in physical education we had to overhand serve 5 times in a row - well of course I could only underhand serve and likely not 5 times in a row!!!  I was discouraged and missed the spirit of what I see on our courts when our players pick each other up, support each other even when a mistake is made, and keep on pushing to set and spike that ball!

As you participate as a team during this tournament remember the skills you are developing as an individual player and as part of a team.  Above all harness the power that comes from the excitement of playing volleyball and achieving together as a team, and as part of the bigger purpose of interacting together as a community.

Congratulations to all the athletes for the dedication that has brought you here to Uganda.  We hope you have a great experience, and the team at ISU is here to support in any way we can.

Take care,

Simon Gillespie

MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Welcome to ISU!

We are so excited to host ISSEA Volleyball 2024 and welcome you to Uganda and our school community.

At ISU we Learn, Connect and Contribute and ISSEA tournaments provide wonderful opportunities to learn and develop new skills, connect and collaborate with other athletes from schools across southern and eastern Africa, and to contribute to our school spirit and communities through competition and sport.

I wish each of you an inspiring and enjoyable tournament and I hope that you strive towards your personal goals as athletes, that you build friendships and connections with others and that you enjoy being in a different school and country for these few days. Above all, have fun and make the most of all the opportunities you have during this ISSEA Volleyball 2024 tournament.

MESSAGE FROM THE ATHLETICS DIRECTOR

Dear Athletes, Coaches and Volleyballers,

On behalf of the community, I'd like to take the opportunity to welcome you all to the International School of Uganda and wish all teams great success.

It has been some time since ISU has hosted Volleyball ISSEA and we are very excited about what is going to be a great display of physical and mental toughness as well as fun, joy and friendship.

What I love about ISSEA is that teams have a healthy respect for each other. They are fiercely competitive on the court, yet celebrate together the end of each match, day and tournament, sharing experiences, moments and stories that will become lifelong memories.

Thank you to all coaches for preparing all athletes and teams. Any ISSEA event is a special, however hosting is extra special. We are all very excited to be welcoming you to Uganda and ISU. You have all trained hard, now it’s time to play hard!

Go ISU Leopards!
