Adventure #5 Standards

Water & Ecology

In this module, learners explore the relationship between water and living things and see how they interact to form ecosystems. After actively learning to apply the defining characteristics of ecosystems to their own surroundings, students learn about the importance of ecosystem management and then have the option to draw or develop a model ecosystem or explore a nearby ecosystem with the help of a trusted adult.

Disciplinary Core Ideas

Organisms, and populations of organisms, are dependent on their environmental interactions both with other living things and with nonliving factors.

Populations live in a variety of habitats, and change in those habitats affects the organisms living there.

Crosscutting Concept

Models can be used to represent systems and their interactions—such as inputs, processes and outputs—and energy and matter flows within systems.

Science and Engineering Practice

Develop and/or use models to describe and/or predict phenomena.
