Sunrise on the Reaping By: Suzanne Collins
Genre: Dystopian
What I would rate this: 5 out of 5!
More: This is the most recent prequel to the Hunger Games series.
Haymich Abernathy hates his birthday. Every year, he wakes on the sunrise of his birthday, but also to the reaping of the Hunger Games. This year, the fear is greater than ever. In honor of the second quarter quell, twice as many tributes will be drawn, the odds twice as bad. And when he does get reaped, torn away from his love and family, the odds for him to survive are so much worse. He knows the odds are not in his favor, but something in him wants to fight back, and not just against the tributes. Against the Capitol.
Dear Philly,
I’m an eighth grader and I’m in kind of a slump this quarter. I’m just so done with school. I know high school is not far, so I don’t even know why I’m still trying to get good grades. Once I finish my EOGs, I’m home free! I can’t focus knowing I’m so close to summer break. Can you help?
Thanks,
Non-motivated Nellie
Hey Nellie,
Eighth grade gets easier after EOG’s, I promise. But it gets worse before it gets better. You have to put in a bit more effort and soon enough, it’ll be summer and you’ll be off to high school. There’s only a couple weeks left of school before testing, and once that’s over, you’re done! You just have to make it through these next few weeks and you’ll do great!
Sincerely,
Philly
