Welcome to my website!
I am an assistant professor of Economics at Austin College. I received my Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Memphis, following my earlier academic pursuits that led to a B.S. and an M.S. in Applied Statistics from the University of Dhaka. I have a demonstrated history of research and teaching (13+ years) in higher education.
My broad research area is applied microeconomics, with primary interests in Health Economics and Policy, Labor Economics, and Gender Economics. One strand of my research evaluates the health and economic impacts of reproductive health access and reduced workweeks. The other strand of my research studies how early-life investments in health shape health, human capital, and labor-market outcomes, particularly for women and children. Another line of my work examines child malnutrition through a gender lens and documents disparities in BMI and malnutrition among women of reproductive age across rural–urban settings and along regional, educational, and wealth gradients.
In parallel, I am working on projects that map and mitigate maternity care deserts and examine heterogeneity in public health behaviors. My approach combines causal inference with machine learning to address real-world issues in a data-driven manner. Across all these strands, my goal is to inform interventions that promote health equity, gender equality, and economic well-being.
My publications appear in well-regarded journals. Additionally, I presented my research at the American Economic Association, American Society of Health Economists, and other leading economics conferences. I am currently serving on the editorial boards of Health Economics and Health Sciences sections of PLOS ONE and Frontiers in Public Health.
