Welcome to my website!
I am an Assistant Professor of Economics at Austin College. I received my Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Memphis, following my earlier academic pursuits that led to a B.S. and an M.S. in Applied Statistics from the University of Dhaka. I have a demonstrated history of research and teaching (15+ years) in higher education.
My primary research area is applied microeconomics, with a focus on Health Economics, Public Policy, and Gender Economics. I research how policies and early-life health investments shape health and economic outcomes. My work examines reproductive health, labor market regulations, and human capital development. I also study gender and socioeconomic inequalities in health, with a focus on nutrition. I analyze the gender gap in child nutrition and disparities in women’s nutritional status across rural-urban, regional, educational, and wealth dimensions in developing countries. Furthermore, I investigate variation in public health behaviors at the population level.
My approach combines causal inference with machine learning to address real-world issues in a data-driven manner. Across all these strands, my goal is to inform interventions that promote health equity, gender equality, and economic well-being.
My publications appear in well-regarded journals. Additionally, I presented my research at the American Economic Association, American Society of Health Economists, and other leading economics conferences. I am currently serving on the editorial boards of Health Economics and Health Sciences sections of PLOS ONE and Frontiers in Public Health.
