What is the Personal Project
The Personal Project is a Middle Years Programme (MYP) project intended to encourage 10th grade students to explore their personal interests and talents. The idea is to have students apply and strengthen their MYP's Approaches to Learning skills (ATL), through completing an original project.
More about the Project...
It is completed over an extended period of time.
It requires both a learning goal and a product goal.
It is completed through a cycle of: Inquiry, Action and Reflection.
Recording the process throughout is crucial because the focus of the project is the student's journey towards new learning and towards the product and the skills used to get there, rather than the final product itself.
Why is it important?
In the context of the MYP aims, the Personal Project holds a very important place. It is a significant piece of work produced during the final year, which provides an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate the independent learning skills they have developed, while allowing them to explore something about which they are truly passionate.
For instance, some of the skills used and developed are research, time and self-management, communicating, critical and creative thinking and reflecting.
