ISP Falcons Participant
Code of Conduct
Only full-time enrolled students of ISP are eligible to participate on a representative school team. All students and parents are expected to read and follow the respective Code of Conduct. By signing up for a try-out and accepting a place on a team, the participant agrees to all of the terms in the Code of Conduct including the following.
Up to date medical and dietary information on file with the school nurse for the current school year
Meet satisfactory academic standards in all subjects
Regular school attendance required
Attendance for all practices and games
With proper notification (minimum 24 hours) coaches may excuse tardiness or absence from a scheduled meeting/practice session or game due to illness or academic concerns
When a representative event means missing part or all of a class*, the student participant is responsible for communicating with their teacher and arranging for missing work or assignments.
*The Activities Office informs all teachers in advance of representative trips and students that have been selected so that behaviour and academic progress can be checked. It remains the responsibility of the student to follow up with their teachers to ensure they remain on course with their studies.
Academic guidelines for permission to travel
ISP student participants are sometimes required to miss scheduled class time. ISP recognises the inherent benefits for students who experience activities and athletics related trips, and also recognises our obligation to maintain appropriate academic standards.
ISP students are encouraged to develop their time-management skills by effectively structuring their unscheduled time in and out of school. It is possible for an ISP student to lose travel privileges by neglecting their academic responsibilities.
Following feedback from subject teachers and administration, loss of travel privileges may be imposed for reasons including (but are not limited to) quality of a student’s work, tardiness, absences, and conduct in and out of class. Privileges may be reinstated after teachers and administration are satisfied with student progress in the deficient area of concern.
Conduct and Behaviour
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that positively reflects on themselves, their families and the ISP community
Behaviour and/or conduct that reflects poorly on the school or individuals (even if they occur in non-athletic or non-activity situations) may constitute grounds for suspension or dismissal from the team, depending on the gravity of the offence
A curfew hour as well as meeting times will be established that students must follow
When staying in hotels or homestays; students are to be mindful of their surroundings including volume, language and conduct. Students are to act respectfully towards others.
Students must display appropriate respectful behaviour at all times to: their peers, event officials, event sponsors, coaches and all members of the host community.
During the period of the tournament, host parents and/or ISP staff will act in ‘loco parentis’ to their student guests or student group. Students are expected to respect host parents or supervising staff and obey all instructions. This applies in all situations irrespective of location during the period of the tournament.
Smoking, Drinking & Drugs
In accordance with ISP guidelines, smoking, vaping, any use of tobacco, drinking of alcohol, and the use of recreational drugs is not permitted under any circumstances. If a violation of this occurs during a school trip, the coach/leader, after consulting with the Director of Activities and Athletics and/or respective Principal will make one of the following decisions:
notify the parents and send the student back to ISP at the student's expense;
remove the student from the host school housing and place them in a hotel at the student's expense; or
allow the student to remain on the trip, but not take part in activities.
Upon returning to ISP, future participation in representative activities will be evaluated by the Director of Activities and Athletics along with the respective Principal.
Team Travel
When travelling to scheduled sporting events, all athletes will travel together on school provided transportation or school booked transportation. In rare occasions an athlete may return from a local away event (i.e. in Prague) by other means only with the parent’s/guardian’s permission, provided it is granted before the trip or in the presence of the parent/guardian at the event. Return transportation that differs from that of the team, as well as any associated costs, are the responsibility of the parents.
Attendance
Attendance is important at practices, games and meetings. Participants should make every effort to schedule appointments and other commitments outside of schedule practice/game times. If the participant must miss a scheduled session, the athlete must inform the coach beforehand (minimum 24 hrs notice).
Equipment
Participants are expected to return, at the end of each season, all equipment and team uniforms issued to them. Responsibility for any equipment/team uniforms issued lies with the athlete and report cards and awards may be withheld until all items are accounted for. Invoices will be issued for the cost of replacement for any unreturned items.
Participant code violation
Any violation of the Participant Code will be reported to the coach/leader, the Director of Activities and Athletics and the respective Principal. Parents/guardians will be informed of any sanctions taken involving their child in line with the above code of conduct and respective sectional student handbook. Consideration will be given to extenuating circumstances involving any violation. Students suspended from school will not be allowed to practise or participate in scheduled programmes while serving a suspension.
