Welcome! We are Stella and Shaasvata, the Co-Editors-in-Chief of NEXUS, ISM's only interdisciplinary natural and social sciences newsletter. We are thrilled to present our very first issue of the 2024-2025 school year, centered around the theme of "New Awakenings."
Fresh ideas and breakthroughs continuously reshape our world, urging us to embrace change and explore new perspectives. Whether in science, technology, or society, innovation and growth arise from recognizing the untapped potential in every discovery.
This theme has inspired various articles, from Agrivoltaics to Artificial Intelligence, each offering a fresh perspective on the world around us. We invite you to explore these stories and hope you find them as inspiring as we did!
Generally the Writer of the month is chosen based on the following criteria:
i) Frequency of active participation in monthly issues
ii) Proactivity: asking questions and incorporating feedback
iii) Timely submissions of the first draft, proper resolution of edits
iv) Overall writing style/quality
It gives us great pleasure to announce that our Writer of the Month for February is Khaloula Del Prado, a junior! Some Q&A:
What are your areas of interest?
I’ve always been very interested in performing, and making art, like sculptures and creative things. I really like doing pilates as well!
What are your favourite subjects in school?
My favorite subjects are definitely english lit & global politics, I usually enjoy learning about what those subjects entail. Obviously not every class will be a blast, but I usually enjoy those classes more often than not.
Why did you choose to write your article Artificial Intelligence - The Theorized Possibility of AI "Consciousness" for this month’s theme?
Since my favorite game will always be Detroit: Become Human, the possibility of AI consciousness really interests me, and so I thought to add that nerdy hyper fixation into my article idea. Thankfully, it paid off since it helped me really enjoy writing the piece!
What do you like about Nexus?
I really like how Nexus provides its writers the opportunity to explore the realms of science and philosophy through our writing, without restriction or strict topics to write about. It really makes creating pieces for the publication greatly enjoyable.
What’s a fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me is that I, unfortunately, cannot whistle. :(
