On this page I, keep track of how I found out more about my topic through primary sources (interviews, observations, and/or surveys).
I interviewed Daryl Wislang, who is my uncle and a professional sailor. He has sailed in many round-the-world races. I text him over WhatsApp and that is how we set up the interview.
Daryl has seen an extreme increase in water pollution over the past 20 years.
The Ocean Races are doing their part by making sure their crews use re-useable water bottles. They also recycle their sails. No single-use plastic is used in The Ocean Race's food and drink outlets and catering. All serviceware is reusable or compostable, straws are banned and water refill stations are provided throughout the Race Villages.
Sailors also have an opportunity to inspire fans and followers to make positive choices for the environment by showing how they are helping the ocean.
The Ocean Race’s Champions for the Sea programme has helped over 160,000 children in more than 54 countries understand one of the main threats to the ocean, plastic pollution, and what can be done to combat it.
