Students can view information on when and how to join individual activities on the CCTV system during lunch periods. Club advisors will be announcing the start dates through Advisory. They will also be posted on the Middle School web page with dates and contact person. 

ART CLUB -

Art Club provides an avenue for students to exchange creative ideas, create imaginative artwork and collaborate with other students.  These talented students work to support the fine arts within MS and our community.  Club members will have the opportunity to create artwork while exploring new techniques and mediums.  Projects vary from year to

year, but at least one community service project is completed annually.

C.A.R.E CLUB

Compassion. Attitude. Responsibility. Empathy.  C.A.R.E. Club members perform a variety of community service-related activities to enhance the lives of others.  Members will send letters of thanks to service members, conduct book, food, animal shelter and clothing drives and so much more.  We hope you will join us!

CHAMBER ENSEMBLE

Chamber Ensemble is an after-school Orchestra for students in grades 6-8 who are looking to learn challenging yet rewarding orchestra music.  Rehearsals would be on a weekly basis, and the ensemble would perform in concerts both in and out of district.

The immersion after school club will support English Language Learners’ social, emotional, and cognitive growth by providing opportunities for activity-based learning.  Through a variety of motivational games and activities, students will be engaged, encouraged, and motivated to practice the skills needed for English language acquisition.

KIC is responsible for recycling paper and plastic in our building, as well as the upkeep of our gardens. LEGO BUILDING CLUB -

Students will learn how to create, plan and accomplish a set objective using Lego bricks. They will do this by working together and by taking risks and applying concepts that they learned in other classes. Students will build unique creations, engage in activities that will trigger imagination, make connections with other classmates and also have tons of fun!

Any 6th Grade student who loves Math and wants to challenge themselves is invited to join! This club provides an opportunity for students to engage in creative problem-solving activities, which develops their ability to reason, be logical and resourceful.  Students will practice weekly in preparation for five Math Olympiad contests.

Any 8th grader interested in problem solving and math/logic puzzles can join this club.  If a student decides to join Mathletes, he/she will spend a great deal of time preparing for competitions.  Team members participate in five competitions against teams from other local schools.

National Junior Honor Society - NJHS is open to Grade 7 & 8 students who maintain an overall average of 94% or higher for the first three marking periods.  In addition, students must exhibit good character, good citizenship, leadership and service in accordance with the national guidelines.

SCIENCE & NATURE -

In the spring and fall, students will explore the freshwater lake habitats located at our school as well as help to design and build Native Gardens here on campus.  In addition, students will have the chance to explore high-interest science topics such as dry ice, engineering challenges such as the "Egg-Drop" as well as become environmentalists by constructing their projects using recycled materials. These projects include up-cycling clothing items into new, wearable items in order to prevent fast-fashion from filling our landfills.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT -

Student government members are representatives of the Islip Middle School student body.  Club members plan/provide several extra-curricular activities (i.e. fundraisers, socials, field trips) for all grades.  Students coordinate community service events helping promote good character and leadership.  Club members participate in decision making that influence the social climate in the middle school.  They also work hand in hand with many other clubs and their members encouraging school spirit.

THEATER/DRAMA CLUB

Students in Drama Club will participate as performers and produce an IMS production. A new production is selected each year, and students have the opportunity to enhance the production in scene work while learning different acting techniques. Students will also learn the movement and choreography for the Middle School Musical Production. Club members will get the chance to learn the technology involved in operating the lights and soundboards for productions. There will be opportunities for students to be a stagehand, and many other exciting production tasks.

VIDEO JOURNALISM CLUB -

This club involves students in the media production and broadcast of IMS and Islip community events through collaboration with the Video Production Club.  Students experience all aspects of journalism through fact-finding, interviews, and studio broadcasts.  Journalism Club works to create engaging dialogue, deliver fun "on-air" news reports, and "keep the pulse" of the IMS student body!

YOGA/GOOD VIBES -

Mrs. Johnson

Good Vibes is open to everyone who wants to unwind and connect to a calm and peaceful state of mind.  We will practice yoga, breathing exercises and tools to help you connect to the best version of yourself.  All levels of yoga experience are welcome.  If you’ve never tried yoga before, this is a perfect place to start.  What to bring: your own yoga mat and water bottle (Mrs. Johnson has extra mats in case you forget). What to let go of:  judgements and expectations. This club will meet outdoors when weather permits.

Islip Middle School offers assistance to all students under the guidance of the Academic Support Services Team.

Students may attend homework support after school. Children are expected to bring planners and the appropriate books in order to complete their assignments. Please keep in mind it is probable that not all homework assignments will be completed during homework support.
