LAUNDRY

We do not have the ability to provide laundry service on our campus and so we cannot wash uniforms or provide towels for showering. BYO towel each day. Communicate with host families to help you launder your uniforms in the evenings to be ready the next day.

LOCAL CUSTOMS & LANGUAGE

Malaysians dress well, even for just going to the mall. Smart casual is the norm.  Dress modestly when possible. Even though down-town Kuala Lumpur is a modern city, your housing family's neighbourhood may not be accustomed to short-shorts or bare shoulders.

Avoid using your left hand to give or receive items nor raise it in greeting. The left hand is considered unclean in Malaysian culture and to use it as above is a great insult. Open displays of anger and displeasure are frowned upon. If you find yourself in a frustrating situation, take a deep breath, smile, excuse yourself (say, “maaf”), walk away to calm down and return when you feel composed.

English has become a universal language among city-dwellers in KL which has made communication easy for travellers.

Some of these common phrases can put a smile on someone's face during your visit:

Please - Sila

Thank you - Terima Kasih

You're welcome - Sama-sama

Yes - Ya

No - Tidak

Good morning - Selamat pagi

Good evening/night - Selamat malam

How are you? - Apa khabar

I'm well - Khabar baik

Excuse me - Maafkan saya

Sorry - Maaf

I do not understand - Saya tidak faham

It's okay - Tak apa

Goodbye - Selamat tinggal (you are leaving) / Selamat jalan (you are staying)

MEDICAL INFORMATION

ISKL will provide a school staff nurse to be at each game site for the duration of the event. An emergency vehicle will be on standby for transportation to:

In case of injury or illness – whether before, during, or after the matches – please notify the site director and or school nurse. A nurse will be located at the game venues during the tournament.

An injured athlete should not leave campus for any medical care without first consulting their own coach and the tournament medical staff.

In case of an injury or illness resulting outside of the tournament day, students should call ISKL (during the school day) and talk to one of the school administrators. If it is after school hours, they should contact the tournament director immediately with assistance from your host family. See the 'Important Phone Numbers' section of this website.

Concussion protocols will be in effect and controlled by each schools Athletic Trainer if in attendance. If a school does not have a trainer present a trainer from another school or JIS school nurse or tournament official will step in to support any concussion assessment/injury. The ISKL Head Injury & Suspected Concussion Protocols can be viewed on the Concussion SOP's page.

At no time will coaches and or parents overrule any decision or protocol made by the Athletic Trainer(s) and other tournament personnel. AT’s, nursing staff and Doctors decisions are final. Any suspected concussion injury will be assessed by the designated medical professional (not coaches or parents) and standard concussion assessment used. A doctors clearance will be required before any return to play is considered.

NOISE MAKERS POLICY

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO RECORDING

Parent and other visiting spectator photographers are only allowed to take photos from the spectator seating areas and the benches.

Only ISKL Student and ISKL Staff photographers may position themselves during the meet in designated areas.

If visiting teams/players/families would like to place their own video recording devices around the courts, they may do so provided they are not blocking any spectator views, tournament officials views, scoreboards, blocking livestream camera views, and are not placed in a location where they may cause interference with the players. The Site Directors will determine if a camera location is suitable or if the camera needs to be moved to another location. Site Directors are not tasked with finding suitable locations for cameras around the courts.

REST AREAS

The Athlete's Rest Area will be located in Court 1 of the Jungle Gymnasium building:

The Parent's Rest Area will be in the PE Fitness room, below the Jungle Gymnasium. In this area you will find coffee, tea, and light snacks provided along with comfortable seating available.
