What a difference a year makes… and an interesting and eventful year it was! I have been blessed to join ISISD and my family and I continue to be thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing community. As we prepare for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year, we have had a chance to reflect on all of the amazing opportunities that we had. We have all learned so much. As we begin planning for this school year, we made the decision to bring all students back to in-person instruction. ISISD will not have virtual learning as a regular platform next year.
We want to thank the families, and our community, for the strong partnership we had during this unprecedented time. As we move forward, we will continue to follow CDC guidance on precautions, washing hands, and comprehensive cleaning of all areas. However, we will not require the use of masks, but encourage the use by all stakeholders.
Please understand that as we continue to make plans for the beginning of the school year, the landscape of our world, as a result of COVID-19, is continuously changing and we have to be able to adapt quickly to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Our plan is to continue to remain flexible throughout the school year to accommodate possible changes, readjustments, or intermittent closures. Please check the ISISD website or Facebook for the most current information.
Please continue to note, the guidance that we receive from TEA and health officials cannot anticipate every unique situation. As a result, ISISD will continue to monitor, consult and work with multiple agencies and school districts to assist in our process of decision making. Iraan-Sheffield ISD will comply with all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations. Including, but not limited to, employment, disability laws, workplace safety standards and accessibility standards to address individual needs.
It is imperative to remember that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread by infected persons who have little to no symptoms, but still contagious. The person they infect may become seriously or fatally ill. Especially vulnerable are people that are over 65 years of age and/or those with pre-existing health conditions. We continue to ask all students, staff and visitors to self-screen before entering any ISISD facility.
ISISD will begin the year closed to regular visitors in the cafeteria. As we learn more, we will be able to slowly invite guests back to lunch. Please be patient with us. All visitors on campus for parent/teacher conferences, and other activities must first check into the school offices and self-screen.
Please note that the information and process that we follow are subject to change at any time pending new guidance or data from local, state or federal authorities.
On behalf of the ISISD Staff, I want to thank you for your support, patience and understanding as we continue to navigate this new world of education.
Thank you,
Dr. Tracy Canter, Superintendent

Braves-The information we have gathered about 1A & the move to 6-man Football for ISISD is highly unlikely. ISISD would meet the enrollment requirements for 2021-2022, but UIL does not redraw district lines until about February 2022... In the 2022-2023 school year, we estimate a larger group of students, and assuming that we did NOT have an additional 2 students enroll, we would be able to play. That is too close to take a chance. In addition, utilizing each of the formulas for the following years with our estimated projected enrollment, ISISD would not be eligible to stay 1A, 6-man. Therefore, ISISD has made the decision to NOT move forward with pursuing the 6-man option at this time. The link to the UIL rules: https://www.uiltexas.org/files/constitution/uil-ccr-section-1250.pdf
Parents and Families,
As we prepare to return to face-to-face instruction on January 28, please ensure that you are closely monitoring your student for signs and symptoms related to COVID-19. We ask that you follow these guidelines and do not send your child to school if they are experiencing any type of illness, fever or close contact exposure. It is our goal to ensure that we do not have to close campus again. We can only do that with your help. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school. We look forward to seeing everyone return to campus next week!
Have a great day and a wonderful weekend!
~Dr. Tracy Canter
Parents and Families,
Good Afternoon! Due to recent events and to ensure the safety of everyone, students will move to virtual learning beginning tomorrow. ISISD must move to virtual learning beginning Thursday, January 14 and close the building to face-to-face instruction for 14 days. Students will be bringing home appropriate devices or work today. Students may return to school on Thursday, January 28. (Monday, January 18 is still considered a student holiday and they will not be expected to attend virtual classes on that day.)
ISISD teachers and staff will be isolating but reporting to work daily to provide learning and support to your child during the regular school day, just as they would if they were receiving face-to-face instruction.
Please refer to ISISD for further information pertaining to our COVID-19 procedures: https://sites.google.com/isisd.net/school-closure-information/home?scrlybrkr=61cbe233
All extracurricular activities will also be postponed or canceled. Unfortunately, this includes our open house that was scheduled for tonight. We will not participate in games, training, meets, etc. The coaches will also reach out to the appropriate people to notify of this change.
We will provide curb service breakfast and lunch daily from 11-12 in front of the cafeteria. Please fill out the curbside meal pick up form. (Also on the website under COVID-19 Announcements)
Remember that all schools within Texas may NOT close schools as a preemptive measure and we are required to follow CDC guidelines. Please remember to keep your child home if they are ill or experiencing any of the COVID-19 symptoms.
All students and staff are to wear face masks, Please remind your child of this and to wash their hands regularly and to socially distance. Together we can make a difference.
ISISD has done a great job and we will ensure that we are even more diligent in following these guidelines in the future. Thank you for partnership and effort in helping us to diminish the impact of COVID-19 on our community.
RESCHEDULED- THIS HAS BEEN MOVED TO JANUARY 28 @ 5:00 P.M.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held for Iraan-Sheffield ISD’s updated Field House and Brave Stadium on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. at the stadium plaza.
The projects were part of a $9.75 million bond election overwhelmingly approved by 66% of ISISD voters in Nov. 2018. Most of the bond was used for upgrading to the 1977 Field House, improving the building’s safety, making it fully ADA compliant, and resurfacing the parking areas throughout the campus.
As a result of the projects, the Field House now features 3 separate dressing rooms and an enlarged training room with 4 taping beds, a dedicated whirlpool tub, and space for rehab equipment. The weight room has been reconfigured to separate the practice area from the weight stations. Antimicrobial flooring at the weight stations is safer for student athletes, better protects the equipment, and reduces overall noise in the weight room. A “Hall of Fame” with built-in trophy cases lines the corridors and tells the story of Brave Athletics throughout the years.
The Field House upgrades were not just cosmetic. The fire and life safety systems were completely replaced to ensure optimal safety for District students and personnel. The District was also able to upgrade the electrical service connections in all buildings on the west side of the campus for improved efficiency.
Fans of the Braves have probably experienced the improvements to Brave Stadium. From better parking, to ticketing, ADA access, concessions, and new lights, the Stadium facelift is impressive. Of note is the 900 square foot concessions stand that includes commercial grade equipment to better serve spectators.
“We are proud that the District was able to accomplish the Field House and paving projects promised to the voters plus the additional electrical work under budget by more than $10,000.00,” said Superintendent Dr. Tracy Canter. “Pursuing excellence every day is our mission, and these projects demonstrate how much our community supports all the ways in which students learn.”
Other bond projects included replacing aging buses and technology upgrades. Enhancing the District’s wireless network and network switches is ongoing, but is expected to be completed this year.
The dedication ceremony will include school district administration as well as student representatives. Self-guided tours will be offered following the ceremony.
The Iraan-Sheffield ISD administration thanks the voters for their support as well as the staff members who have worked throughout the planning and design process to make this project a reality. Go Braves!
ISISD School Board Navigating to Success
The challenge involved in providing an excellent educational experience for the many, varied students in our district is a challenge that requires dedication and creativity in the best of times. The year 2020, however, was not the best of times.
The past year required an unusual combination of skills and talents from district leaders. Unexpected circumstances resulted in changes in laws and regulations, and those statewide changes required adaptability, quick problem solving, teamwork, and leadership at the district level.
Navigating through unfamiliar waters became a daily task, complicated by the differing opinions and desires of various constituents. These uncertain and sometimes treacherous circumstances created challenges for even the most seasoned among us. A steady hand on the rudder was absolutely required, and that’s exactly what our district’s board provided.
Our trustees came through when we needed them most this year, charting a course that protected our most vulnerable, while ensuring that academic progress could continue for all students. It was a daunting situation, but they navigated to success with unerring determination.
Board service is a volunteer effort, accepted by only a few in the community. It is a tough job with no salary. It is a critically important job that requires an election and then mandated training. It is a responsibility that takes time, a mature outlook, and careful decision-making. Board members are often overlooked, but their contributions cannot be overstated. They are helping to shape tomorrow.
We recognize our trustees: Margaret Holmes, Basilio Ramirez, Tory Cox, Cody Strube, Jeffery McMahon, Preston Villanueva and Blake Andrews for their hard work and dedication to Iraan-Sheffield ISD. Take a moment to thank our board members and honor the work they are doing on behalf of our students and community.
Join me in celebrating School Board Recognition Month throughout the month of January.
