FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Are there any special accommodations that should be made on Art days?

A: Yes, students should not wear new or dressy clothes on Art days. Even though students wear either their own paint shirts or borrow one of the art room shirts to cover their clothes, there is always a chance that student's clothes can get stained permanently. I wouldn't want that to happen.

Q: Are helpers needed for anything for the Art program?

A: If your older students are looking for some community service hours, I would love some help setting up the art show in the spring. Please contact me if you have a willing volunteer or two.

Q: When is the best time to reach Mrs. Munson?

A: My schedule changes daily, so the easiest way to contact me is through email - smunson@ishpemingschools.com. Or you can call the school and leave a message!

Q: How are students graded in Art?

A: For grades JrK-4, students are graded on each quarter's activities using the following scale:

4 = Advanced; exceeds expectations

**3** = Proficient; meets expectations (this is our goal)

2 = Basic; partially meets expectations

1 = Minimal; does not meet expectations for the grade level

And are graded in the following categories:

CONTENT: Understands concepts taught

CREATING: Demonstrates appropriate fine motor skills

CREATIVITY: Applies problem-solving strategies

RESPONSIBILITY & EFFORT

Q: Should I be concerned if my student's grade drops from to a "3" last quarter to a "2" this quarter?

A: Probably not. Projects change from one grading period to the next. Students will show their strengths and weaknesses as projects, materials, and techniques change. It is reasonable to say that if a student really enjoys the quarter's projects and techniques, they will participate and excel more than if they do not enjoy them as much.

Q: Is Mrs. Munson available for parent/teacher conferences?

A: Yes. If you would like to meet with Mrs. Munson during parent/teacher conferences, you can either call and schedule one or check with the office - they will know where she is in the building.
