As an Advanced Placement Human Geography teacher at ASD (taught to grades 9 & 10), I have noticed a trend in students being unprepared for the skills required to be successful in the course. Analyzing & Presenting Data in Science (for lab investigations and IB Science IAs)

Description: Collecting, analyzing and presenting data is an important part of any scientific investigation. This course will introduce some data processing tools along with a few analytical and graphical techniques commonly used to analyze the scientific data. Students will analyze pre-recorded movie clips using online video analysis tools, process experimental errors and create graphical trend lines using the Vernier Graphical Analysis. Students will also learn to use the Tracker video analysis tool in collecting and processing of data and learn how to create quality graphs. The use of error analysis (the rules of uncertainty propagation and drawing appropriate error bars) will also be explained. The course will empower students to make the best of the data available to them in drawing evidence-based conclusions. Access to a smartphone and a personal computing device will be required.
