PTA Fun Ball

Chinese Story Readers

Role Description

Under the guidance of our primary librarians and coordinated by parents through the PTA, we have a group of more than 30 Putonghua speaking parent volunteers who come to the Primary Library to read to young children is lower grades during Chinese library classes. The Chinese Story Readers read books and tell stories to the children in Putonghua. Their service is extremely valuable for families whose native language is not Putonghua. Starting this year, we will also recruit Chinese Story Readers for higher grades. They will share one of the books from the Chinese Reading Plan book list with the children to raise children’s interest in reading Chinese books.

Time Requirement

Reading sessions are scheduled according the School’s library classes. Volunteers can choose their preferred date and time for reading sessions. Reading time will take around 15 minutes for lower grades and 30 minutes for higher grades. Parents may take more than one class per day. We recommend parent volunteers choose classes other than their child’s. This activity begins in October.
