Introduction

What exactly does it mean to be a citizen? Many assume it means to have legal status within a country. However, being a citizen has meanings that are much deeper and more subtle than legal permission to live in or being native to a country. Rather, it also includes an individual's relationship to the country and having personal responsibility, duty and rights.
