St. James High School Athletic Hall of Fame

The St James High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee Reorganizes!

At a meeting, the St. James High School Athletic Hall of Fame committee reorganized it's make-up and discussed options for the future of the organization. Due to Jon Wilson resigning from being on the committee, and Dennis Johnson also withdrawing from the committee, many changes have been made.

The committee would first like to thank Jon and Dennis for their years of service on the committee. Jon was the driving force for The Hall of Fame’s organization establishment in 2013, and Dennis was the voice for the athletes in the glory days of St. James Athletics in the 60s and 70s.

The committee voted to expand to 10 members.

Chosen as Chairperson was Gene Hildebrandt.

Chosen as Secretary/Treasurer was Don Kurpiers.

Continuing members also include Dale Eckstrom, Jim Neid, Marcia Eggen, and Scott Allen.

New committee members are Jim Augustin, Darrick Miest, Jared Schwanz, and Steph (Sandmeyer) Leimer.

The decision was made not to have a banquet and induction ceremony in 2025.

Another meeting of the committee will be held after the beginning of the school year in 2025.

St. James High School Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Criteria

A. Athletes:

Must be at least 15 years since the candidate graduated from St. James High School.
Must have shown mature accomplishments since graduation.
The committee shall consider the following criteria for selection purposes:
1. Played on a conference, MSHSL (District, Section, and Region) championship team.
2. Played in a state tournament.
3. Earned a letter in more than 1 sport or lettered at least twice in the sport.
4. Named to an All-Conference, All-State, or All-Star team.
5. Received a news media recognition award.
6. Received team awards from annual program (MVP, captain, etc.)

B. Coach (Head/Assistant):

Must have coached a minimum of ten years in St. James.
The committee shall consider the following criteria for selection purposes:
1. Coached a team that won a conference championship.
2. Coached a team in Regional and Sectional competition (automatic qualifiers not included).
3. Coached a team or individual in state meet competition.
4. Had a minimum 68% won/lost record.
5. Earned a state and/or national award.
6. Assisted in a program that reached a-b-c above.

C. Special Division:

People who have made a major contribution to promoting Saints athletics. (Booster Club members, volunteers, school support personnel, student managers and Middle School (Junior High) coaches.
Longevity will be carefully considered in this category.

D. Nomination Process

Anyone may make a nomination to the Selection Committee by filling out the proper nominating form (link on website).

The Selection Committee will meet periodically to consider nominations.
The Selection Committee may make rules, regulations, etc. as needed to provide for the selection and necessary procedures for induction.
1. Simple majority will be necessary for selection.
2. Proxy votes will be valid.
Those not selected remain candidates indefinitely, and their qualifications will be reviewed for future years.

E. Selection

Winners will be announced and presented with a plaque at a recognition ceremony as determined by the Athletic Council/School Board and the Selection Committee. The date of the banquet will coincide with the Homecoming Weekend festivities.
A maximum of ten (10) people may be inducted as Charter members into the St. James High School Hall of Fame.
A maximum of eight (8) people may be inducted annually into the St. James High School Hall of Fame after the first year. Special circumstances can be approved by the Selection Committee to add more inductees to a certain year.
