Instructional Technology

Leveraging resources to support self-directed learning to communicate, create, collaborate, and think critically.

Why Integrate Technology?

In order to effectively integrate technology, we need to always put students at the center of our purpose.  To do so, we need to ask ourselves WHY this movement is so important.  So often, organizations start by telling the community what they are going to do (eg. achieve high scores on a test) and how they are going to do it (eg. solid instruction for all students).  Rarely, do organizations get to WHY they are doing all this.  At Becker Public Schools, we believe in leveraging resources to support self-directed learning to communicate, create, collaborate, and think critically.  By this definition, learners can be students, teachers, and administrators who are committed to growth and transformation.  HOW we are going to do this is by integrating solid instruction for all students with the right tools which will support student achievement (the WHAT).

There is no better explanation of this concept then that given by Mr. Simon Sinek's well know TED Talk entitled "How Great Leaders Inspire Action."  Most organizations tell people WHAT they do and then explain HOW they will do it.  If we want to transform the way our students learn with technology, we must first ask WHY we believe what we believe.  Only after this vision is fully created can we begin to explain how we will bring this vision to life.
