9301: Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
Prerequisite: Wellness
Grade Level: 10-12th Grade
The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course prepares students to provide pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of EMRs, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, and special considerations for working in the pre-hospital setting. Successful completion of this course may result in a 2-year First Responder certification certificate.
9700: Health Career Exploration
Prerequisite: Admission to the program will be based on attendance, GPA, an admission/interview process and administrative discretion. Transportation is not provided.Â

Grade Level: 12th Grade
Course Description: This 1 credit course will utilize two class periods on each student's schedule and is designed for senior students aspiring to pursue careers in healthcare. Participants will engage in a comprehensive rotational program across various departments at local healthcare facilities, including Mayo Clinic Health System, Goldsmith Eye Care, Main Street Dental, and Praha Village. Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to observe, interact, and build relationships with seasoned medical professionals. Successful completion of the course will require the submission of weekly assignments and discussions, feedback from supervisors, consistent attendance, professional behaviors and skills, and the development of a culminating capstone project. Students who register for this course may only register for one additional Senior Privilege or Study Hall during Semester 2. Health Career Exploration is required to be paired with a Senior Privilege or Study Hall class to support students traveling to and from their off site placements.

Grade Level: 11, 12
Course Description: This career-focused course integrates classroom learning with real-world work experience. Students gain and practice valuable skills necessary to excel in the workforce, explore diverse career paths, and discover their strengths and abilities. Students will have experiential learning opportunities such as industry tours, guest speakers, informational interviews, and a work experience where students will apply skills and knowledge in a professional work environment related to their career interests.
The student will complete career-focused coursework one day a week in the classroom and will be on the worksite at least 75 minutes/day four days a week. Students must complete at least 5 hours/week at the worksite. There will be learning assignments and discussions, collection of work records, and job performance assessments by student, employer, and work-based learning coordinator.
The work-based learning coordinator will work with the student to find a suitable placement. However, students can find their own placements, which would need to go through an approval process.
