2. When a person has been studying and seems to be doing well, they can try a GED Ready practice test. Each test is half the length of the official test.
a. Linnea can send them a GED Ready practice test to their my GED account if you let her know ahead of time.
b. If a student scores over 145, they will receive a green GED Ready score and they can schedule the official test (see below).
c. If they do not score a 145, they need to study more. The website will tell them specific areas to work on. Where it says select study materials, they can select our text (Kaplan big book) and do those selected pages.
i. We do have other study materials available if they want something other than Kaplan.
HOW TO SCHEDULE THE OFFICIAL GED:
Before a student can schedule their GED test, they need to have a green GED Ready score that was taken within the past 60 days. Students can take the test at home or at AICHO if they have the correct technology requirements. You can find out more info here: https://ged.com/take-the-ged-test-online/
If students would like to use DAE testing rooms, scheduling is a bit complicated.
Students should log into ged.com and begin signing up for the test
Get to the screen to schedule their time and date
Call Nancy at our front desk 218-336-8725 and she will open our testing room calendar and you can work together to find a time and date that is open to schedule the test. Remember we are open Mon.-Thur. 8:30 - 3:30.
The student should plan to arrive 30 min. before their test begins.
*Important - if a student needs to reschedule their GED test and they cannot follow the above process because GED is requiring them to schedule and DAE is not open, please tell the student to call or email us to let us know when their rescheduled test is. If they don’t let us know, it is possible the testing room will not be available.
Keep in mind that each test is a slightly different length:
Reading: 2.5 hours
Math: 2 hours
Science: 1.5 hours
Social Studies: 1.25 hours
Free GED Test
For now the State of Minnesota is paying for a student's first test in each subject area (1 in math, 1 in reading, etc.) with the code MNHSEFREE. Instead of putting in their credit card info, students enter this voucher into the checkout page.
