The Transition Education Center provides a set of coordinated activities that assist students with disabilities to move from the school setting into post-graduation activities. These activities include post-secondary investigation, employment preparation and planning for independent living. These services occur both on site at the Transition Education Center as well as in the community.
The Transition Education Center (TEC) prides itself on offering courses to meet the transition needs of students. The TEC courses are designed to expose and prepare students for life beyond school.
The three transition areas are:
Secondary Education or Training
Employment
Independent Living
Students attending TEC do not register for their courses; instead, courses are selected by case managers based on each student's identified IEP needs. Since courses are selected based on each student's identified needs, there are no prerequisites needed to take any course.
Course Disclaimer
Not all courses are offered every year at the Transition Education Center.
In addition, the courses outlined in the course catalog are subject to change.
Transition Education Center students will graduate off an IEP- Goal driven graduation plan. Students will earn a diploma when they have met their graduation requirements, including successfully completing the courses agreed upon by the IEP team and/or by obtaining the goals and objectives outlined in their IEP, or by aging out. Students who are enrolled in school and have not yet met their graduation requirments, will age out on their 22nd birthday.
When a student with a disability graduates, their case manager will provide that student/family with a Summary of Performance (SOP). This summary includes recommendations on how to assist the student in meeting their post-secondary goals.
Students on an IEP that have completed their requirements will be granted a diploma that is identical to the diploma granted to a student without a disability. Graduating students will also generate a transcript that outlines the courses they have participated during their time at the Transition Education Center.
