Statement on the Mission of the School Library Media Center

School libraries are Centers for Learning.

Unlike a public library or library archive that may keep books and other resources on their shelves indefinitely, the collections found in school libraries are constantly changing and evolving to ensure they are relevant and meaningful to our learning communities.

Students, staff, and families use the digital and print collections found in our school libraries to ask questions, explore ideas, investigate the world around them, and share their findings with each other.

School libraries support the ever-changing curriculum and the learning goals of our schools. School library collections must be up-to-date, vetted for accuracy, unbiased, and inclusive in their scope.

Students use our digital and print collections to read for pleasure, to find themselves in the pages of a book, and to discover the stories of others.

School libraries seek to make our students lifelong learners and readers. For this to happen, our library collections must be filled with books that our students want to read...books that celebrate the diversity of all our students, staff, and families.
