ISD 318 Wellness Committee
Children need access to healthy foods and physical activities in order to grow, learn, and thrive.
To help meet that need, ISD 318 has created a wellness committee. The team supports healthy eating, physical activity, and nutrition education.
The wellness team is responsible for setting goals for nutrition education, physical activity, and other school-based activities designed to promote student wellness. The committee also establishes nutrition standards for all foods that are available for the purpose of promoting student health.
Nutrition and health are a part of the district’s curriculum. Students are presented with an easy way to understand how to eat healthy by including major food group selections.
The wellness committee is looking at opportunities for increased physical activity during class, recess organized sports, and activities outside of the school day to increase student fitness, enabling them to pursue physically active lifestyles for their future.
The committee is also responsible for updating the wellness policy. Interested students, parents, community members, and staff are encouraged to get involved as the team examines food and beverages offered during the school day, in the concessions stands, in vending machines and school stores, those for sale as a part of fundraisers, and those available in the classroom as prizes or in celebration.
