Changing macOS display settings
Open System Settings.
Select Displays.
Under the Displays window, select the Arrangement tab.
The Mirror Display check box is located in the bottom left corner. This option duplicates what is being shown on the laptop screen to the projector. If you do not wish to have the same windows on both screens, do not check this box.
A secondary window will appear with options to adjust the resolution when the Mirror Display option is checked. On the Display window, select the Display tab.
From the Optimize for drop-down menu, select Display.
Select the Scaled option just below the drop-down menu.
Depending on the display and the connection type, you will be offered multiple resolutions. Select the resolution that works best for you.
If the desktop is extended, you need to use both your MacBook screen and the classroom preview screen to adjust the resolution.
Deselect the Mirrored Display option under the Display Menu.
On the classroom preview monitor, you will see a Display window. Scroll to the right to access the second screen.
Select the Display tab on this window.
Select the Scaled option.
Depending on the display and the connection type, you will be offered multiple resolutions. Select the resolution that works best for you.
After these settings have been adjusted, they will become the default settings for when you connect your laptop to the same external monitor.
Close all windows related to Display and System Preferences.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Displays in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Select a resolution.
If you see a thumbnail view of the available resolutions, move the pointer over the thumbnails to see the resolution sizes, then click the one you want.
To see the available resolutions as a list, Control-click the thumbnail view and choose Show List. Then click the resolution you want.
To switch back to the thumbnail view, Control-click the list view and choose Show Thumbnails.
To always see available resolutions as a list, click Advanced, then turn on “Show resolutions as list.”
If you have more than one display, additional resolution options are available after the other display is connected.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Displays in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Select the display you want to adjust, then select the resolution you want to use.
You may be able to turn on “Show all resolutions” to see additional resolutions for the display.
Depending on how you adjust the resolution, some app windows may not fit entirely on the screen. Using a scaled resolution may affect performance.
Go to the Apple logo > System Settings.
Select Lock Screen from the left sidebar.
Click the drop-down menu next to "Turn display off on battery when inactive.
Choose how fast you want your Mac to go to sleep while running on Battery.
Tap the drop-down menu next to "Turn display off on power adapter when inactive."
Decide how long your Mac screen stays on without activity.
