The Golf Program at Plainview-Elgin-Millville School promotes academic excellence as the top priority. The coaching staff will support and encourage the student-athletes to do well in their various core subjects. High School athletics are an important part of the overall educational program. The coaching staff believes that the desire to see the athlete learn and develop the ability to effectively improve their skill is the key to an effective coaching program. The following components make up the coaching philosophy of the golf program at Plainview-Elgin-Millville High School:
- Ethics as a top priority. Golf is a game of honor and integrity. The coaching staff will teach from an ethical standpoint at all times. This will be transferred and expected from all of the players. Being an ethical person is a character trait that will follow a person throughout their lives.
- Instilling attitudes of sportsmanship, discipline, healthy competition, and school spirit. The coaching staff will model these qualities, realizing that the transference of these skills to the student-athletes is the goal. Sportsmanship will be emphasized as well as respect for the opponent.
- The coach as a mentor, teacher, and role model. In today’s society that we live in, a coach needs to be a positive individual and role model for young adults
- Effective communication. This is an essential part of the program. In order to have healthy relationships, coaches will develop relationships with the players based on respect, care and character. Players are expected to contact coaches immediately whenever they are going to miss practice, are sick, have a dispute with another member of their team or the opposing team, or have any other issue arise where a coach should be notified.
