Social Studies

In fourth grade, we cover the five different regions of the United States. While learning about each region, the students will be tested on states and capitals memorization. Below is a layout of Social Studies curriculum, along with when each region is studied.

Unit 1: Northeast Region, Reading Maps, Longitude & Latitude, Climate

Unit 2: Southeast Region, Economy, Government, States Project

Unit 3: Midwest Region, State Symbols, Land Resources

Unit 4: Southwest Region, Primary vs Secondary Sources, Reading Time Lines & Graphs, Geography

Unit 5: West Region, Population Maps

Unit 6: Reading Bar Graphs, Presidents Project

Unit 7: Reading Map Scales

Unit 8: Reading Historical Maps

Unit 9: The Great Migration

Unit 10: Review Regions of the US, Oregon Trail

*Students will also receive Map Packets to work on throughout the school year.
