Preschool Screening

The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth.

Screening is a brief, simple procedure used to identify potential health or developmental problems in infants and young children who may need a health assessment, diagnostic assessment or educational evaluation. Screening in early childhood supports children's readiness for kindergarten and promotes positive child health and developmental outcomes.

Early Childhood Screening or evidence of a comparable screening by non-school provider is required for entrance in Minnesota’s public schools or within 30 days of enrollment into kindergarten. Early Childhood Screening is offered throughout the year by local districts.

YME School District offers Early Childhood Screening is offered in the fall and spring at the Kilowatt Community Center. YME Early Childhood Staff and Public Health staff is available on site to administer the screening and answer questions about your child's development. You will be contacted by the district when your child is eligible for screening. If you are new to the district, please contact Keisha Louwagie at klouwagie@isd2190.org or 320-564-4081 ext. 114.
