Section 6AA Individual Championships
May 29, 2018
The Haddorff brothers resumed their pursuit of a state tournament berth on Tuesday morning against the Blake Bears’ Sujit Chepuri and Ben Peterson, in the semifinals of the Section 6AA Doubles tournament. Blake held a 2-1 lead in the first set, as Burnsville served in what would prove to be the pivotal game of the match. The fourth game was a back-and-forth affair that included several deuce points. The Blaze looked poised to even the score on multiple occasions, but instead, Blake found a way to earn the service break and capture the momentum. After another break on Burnsville's next service game, Blake held serve to claim the first set 6-1. The second set started in much the same fashion, with the Bears' shots seemingly finding every line, and with the pair repeatedly cutting off would-be winners from the Blaze. Despite a valiant effort, the Haddorffs' state tournament hopes were dashed as they fell 1-6, 1-6.
Fortunately, Luke and Tyler had one more opportunity to end their season on a high note. The pair squared off against the Edina combo of Ryne Reger and Harry Tuttle in the Section 6AA Third Place match. The Haddorff brothers played beautifully, capping off a terrific season for Tyler, and a brilliant Burnsville career for Luke, by winning the match (6-4, 6-4) and the Section 6AA 3rd Place medals.
