Social justice starts with empathy and a sense of community and connectedness to others. Sawtooth will use a project-based approach on this day to build community across grade-levels. We hope to create an even stronger Sawtooth identity and build mentoring / buddy relationships between students while we explore themes of justice. Empathy and community are ways to preempt injustice before it ever starts!
Sawtooth students will be divided into mixed K-4 groups, shared among all classroom teachers. Half of Sawtooth will work in classrooms on a justice alphabet book while the other half of Sawtooth will rotate through specialists. Students will also work with local professional storyteller, Rose Arrowsmith-DeCoux. Mixed-age groups will rotate through recess, lunch and a campfire where they can sing what they learned at music.
Specialists:
At the end of the day, students will return to their to home classrooms to debrief the day and complete their dismissal routines.
