Welcome to CMSW Band where we embrace the Next Generation of Music Education. Students in our program will find what we do to be rigorous, relevant and rewarding. Check out the 2020-21 CMSW Band Handbook which includes schedule, lessons, dates, assessments, materials needed, after school and honor group opportunities and more! Please check back frequently especially before September 8 as the information in this handbook is being updated frequently due to the pandemic. Students enrolled in Band will have Band whether they are enrolled in the hybrid or online learning academy through District 112. Students in the hybrid system will have one band rehearsal a week in person in a smaller group than usual and then one online band lesson a week. Students will bring their instruments the day they have band and take them back home the same day. Those in the online learning academy will have a virtual band rehearsal once a week and then one online band lesson a week.

Students in need of a school instrument rental should contact us. Percussionists must own drum sticks, plastic mallets, yarn mallets and a stick bag. These will not be provided at school. Percussionists can order these and Woodwind and Brass players can order accessories such as reeds, valve oil, and slide cream here. There will be a Band Fee of $25 per student which will cover method books, SmartMusic software for the chromebook and for 6th graders a music shirt. Safety precautions will be put into place including masks with slits to play, bell covers, distancing, and more. Woodwind and brass players (minus flutes) should provide these. You can cut a two inch horizontal slit for your mask.

Other opportunities such as bonus lessons and WIN Ensembles will be slowly added into the schedule as the year progresses. We also are offering Garage Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band and Country Bluegrass Band this fall. Marching Band is open to every band student and starts Sept. 14. Jazz Band info should be posted by September 11 with a start date the week of September 21.
