Exams next week will go on according to schedule. There are 2 scenarios of taking the exams depending on whether secondary students will be allowed back in school from May 11th onward. You can read details about it here. The content was explained to all the students this morning.
Below is an overview of the upcoming weeks for M5.
Week 16: Completing ePortfolios and German/Spanish online ePortflio days.
Week 17-19: Exam prep weeks
Week 20: Exam week (in school or at home, all depending)
Week 22-23: Danish exam weeks
During the exam prep weeks, some classes will continue as normal while completed courses (the ePortfolio subjects) will be replaced by individual exam prep study time. Schedules will be put up weekly as usual. An example of the schedule for the 3 Exam prep weeks can be found here: Week schedule example
Internal ISB exams:
At ISB students will sit for English, Science, Mathematics and IS onscreen exams. Inter Disciplinary (IDU) material has not been released for this session, hence the predicted IDU grade will be based on IDUs conducted this year together with earlier mock exam results.
Teachers will consider the internal exam grades together with the year’s coursework and classwork to decide a predicted grade for each student which is submitted to the IB. The predicted grades will be used to inform the MYP course results as decided by the IB. So far, the internal Danish exams will be conducted as per the original plan, either at school or online, all depending.
Updated calendar in an overview for planning purposes can be found here below:
1.04.2020
Dear students
Due to Covid-19, the IB has officially decided to cancel the MYP May on-screen exams. This is NOT an Aprils fools joke. This is what we know thus far:
May 2020 MYP on-screen examinations are cancelled.
e-Portfolio and Personal Projects grades will be issued. SO, these go ahead as planned.
MYP certificate will be awarded, reflecting achievements from a combination of Personal Project, ePortfolio subjects, and predicted grades for other subjects.
It is likely that we will carry out internally set exams during the scheduled exam weeks. More details will follow. If you wonder what impact this will have for your next step of education, please read the earlier post below.
26.03.2020
Dear M5 students
Situation update
1) ePortfolio: still goes on as per schedule. Deadline Friday 3’rd April. Spanish/German ePortfolio days remain on 16-17 April.
2) Onscreen exams 11-22 May: Status is unknown. The IB is collecting information from coordinators world wide. Exams might proceed as planned in some form or the other, or it might be cancelled like the DP exams. There is no need to speculate, we simply do not know yet. Decisions will made next week, and I will of course inform you as soon as I can.
What impact does that have for M5 students?
With the knowledge we have right now, very little. If the exams proceed as per schedule - nothing procedural changes.
If the exams are cancelled, it will still have limited to no impact on your next step of education. You will still receive some sort of certification from the IB with course results from the different subjects. Therefore, the impact will be
· Efterskole and grade 10: No impact. Admission does not depend on grades, hence exams or no exams will have no impact on admission.
· STX, HTX, HF etc: Little to no impact. Since admission rely on an entrance test and an interview, it is of little significance if the MYP exams are cancelled.
· Diploma Programme: No impact. I have assurance from DP Kolding, that in case the MYP exams will be cancelled, admission will not be affected.
Once the decision is out, and if MYP exams are cancelled, I suggest you contact the relevant education institutions directly should you have any further questions.
In conclusion: Until we know otherwise, finish of your ePortfolio work and assume things carry on as scheduled. If the situation chance, it is very unlikely it will have any impact on your next step after ISB.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
23.03.2020 Exam update
Today it was decided that DP exams are cancelled (https://www.ibo.org/news/news-about-the-ib/may-2020-examinations-will-no-longer-be-held/)
However, for the MYP we do not know yet. The exams are very different (MYP is on computer, DP still on Paper and need to be couriered out), hence I cannot say until the official word is out. IB has let me know that a decision will be made next week. I will of course inform you as soon as I know.
I very strongly expect ePorfolio work to go ahead as planned, so until I hear otherwise, we proceed according to plan.
20.03.2020
Dear students
Here are the revised ePortfolio deadlines. The final submission deadline for the portfolios of PHE, Design and Arts will be postponed with one week until Friday 3rd of April. This deadline is final. This gives you 2 weeks from today to get everything ready, so plan your time carefully. You have to get in contact with Individual teachers if you have special challenges, like recording your final PHE performances and testing your design product.
The ePortfolio tasks for German and Spanish will be conducted on April 16th and 17th. The tasks will either be done in school or electronically, depending on whether we are back at school. These dates might be subject to change as I am awaiting final confirmation from the IB, but they you can assume they will be immediately after the Easter break. For a calendar overview that can get you an overview over next month and help you plan, check below.
12.02.2020
Individual teachers will be in direct contact with the students concerning what they can do from home. The general advice is: Do as much as you can from home (written work, process journals, implement teacher feedback etc), the remaining practical aspects of the tasks (including the Spanish and German tests, VA and Music artwork, Design product and PHE final video) can only be completed once you return to school. The IBMYP is working on implementing a number of protocols concerning ePortfolio deadlines and upcoming exams. I am awaiting confirmation regarding possible extended deadlines for the ePortfolio subjects, something that I think is likely to happen. Once I receive further information I will rework plans and deadlines accordingly, and given the situation unfolds without further complications, I predict we can manage within the given time-frame.
