Here at Firebinger we encourage everyone of all abilities, backgrounds, body shape, sexualities and gender identification to audition. 

This production does have intimacy scenes between characters including both queer and heterosexual relationships. During the rehearsal process these scenes will be directed in collaboration of an intimacy coordinator.

If you would like to familiarise yourself with the show, there is a professionally recorded production available to watch online which we recommend checking out prior to auditions! 

Individual auditions will be held at Pip Theatre in Milton , Savoir Faire, 20 Park Rd, Milton QLD 4064

Dance call will be held at QLD National Ballet School, 57 Hayward Street Stafford QLD

Important Dates

NOTES

• Rehearsal resources will be provided mid December with the expectation that cast will be nearly off book by February

• Costume try-ons will be flexible and by appointment on the week of the 14th Jan

• 5th April Saturday Matinee will be a relaxed show in collaboration with Triple E Support

• The 9th April is a potential show that will be added if the production reaches 65% ticket sales by the 13th March

• If you have any date related questions please do not hesitate to get in touch

• Not all performers will be required at all rehearsals, and rehearsals will be scheduled as carefully as possible to make the best use of your time.

• If you have any other commitments (personal or work) that may impact on your ability to attend the outlined rehearsals, you must provide details in your audition application. This will be taken into consideration during your audition and design of the rehearsal schedule.

Audition Requirements

Individual Auditions

• 15 min booked via the above link for the 25th & 26th November

• Please prepare two songs up to one minute each, with one featuring your comedic ability

  • musical theatre song - preferable contemporary/modern styling 

  • own choice

• On the day you will be asked to participate in cold reads & improv exercises

• Please bring a copy of your CV & Head Shot for the panel

• No piano accompaniment will be provided. Please bring a backing track on a device with bluetooth connectivity or on an AUX cord compatible device. If your phone does not have an audio jack, do not forget your adapter/dongle. 

• All auditions will be by appointment only; auditionees MUST register for an individual 15- minute private session and a group dance call. 

Group Dance Call

• Sunday 24th November 2:00-3:00pm

• The group dance call is COMPLUSORY

• You will be taught a 1 minute number on the day and audition in groups

• Wear appropriate dance shoes (i.e. sneakers or jazz shoes) and wear clothes you can move in 

Important Details

This production does offer remuneration but not MEEA Rates

PAY DETAILS

• All Performers will be paid a base $500

• Performers will be paid an additional $50 for every 10% over and including 60% ticket sales (report to be provided by 3rd Party Ticketing System and will be based off the original 7 shows, but not preview)

• Performers will be paid an additional $50 for any additional shows (including the 9th April)

• Performers will be paid an additional $50 if sold out

Zazzalil

Vocal Range: E3 - E5 (mix)

Stage Age: 18 - 25

Presenting Gender: Female

An ambitious and resourceful freethinker whose ingenuity changes the established ways of life, for better and worse.

Likeable, ironic, clever, jealous, brash, fun.

NOTE: There is a request for physical intimacy (kiss) between this role and Jamilla.

Jemilla

Vocal Range: E3 - C#5 (strong mix)

Stage Age: 20 - 30

Presenting Gender: Female

The capable, levelheaded leader of the tribe whose life is upturned by a changing world.

Benevolent, authoritative, kind, warm, diplomatic, a little bit petty.

NOTE: There is a request for physical intimacy (kiss) between this role and Zazzalil.

Molag

Vocal Range: Ensemble Singing Only

Stage Age: OPEN

Presenting Gender: ANY

The narrator of the show, mad as a box of bats. Molag is the old chief, retired from a bloody war career to take the piss out of the audience. Low vocal load, but requires a strong comic actor

Self aware, eccentric, wise, powerful, around the bend.

Emberly

Vocal Range: G3 - Bb4 (strong mix) Bb4 - D5 (head voice)

The wide eyed worker, a big mind and heart whose horizons are broadened by an unlikely relationship.

Intelligent, quirky, empathetic, love sick, vulnerable, self aware, eccentric, wise, powerful, around the bend.

NOTE: There is a request for physical intimacy with this role and Grunt .

Grunt

Vocal Range: D3 - F#4

Stage Age: 18 - 30

Presenting Gender: Male

An outcast, artistic fool abandoned by his people. Sharing their talent and finding companionship within the (at first) hostile tribe.

Clueless, sweet, talented, well meaning, a bitinsecure.

NOTE:There is a request for physical intimacy with this role and Emberly .

Keeri

Vocal Range: C#4 - A4

Stage Age: 20 - 30

Presenting Gender: Female

Zazzalil’s hanger-on, a head full of fairies and optimism. Keen to do whatever is asked of her until it clashes with her strong sense of right and wrong.

Friendly, dopey, agreeable, honest, invents dancing.

Ducker

Vocal Range: Bb2 - F#4

Stage Age: 20 - 30

Presenting Gender: Male

The tribe’s cunning shaman/religious leader. He is allotted privilege and status as the interpreter of God’s will on earth (God is a duck).

Self serving, manipulative, calculating,supreme-egg-head-wizard.

Schwoopsie

Vocal Range: Bb3 - G4

Stage Age: 20 - 30

Presenting Gender: Female

The world’s first stand up comic, doing her thing until circumstances bring on an existential crisis.

Seeks validation, earnest, corny, directionless, teller of ‘The Joke’

Tiblyn

Vocal Range: C#4 - D5 (strongmix) B4 - D5 (head voice)

Stage Age: 20 - 30

Presenting Gender: Female

The work-horse of the tribe, (not)literally holding the world upon her shoulders. Her life is grounded in her job of holding up the sky. This (not)very important duty gives her purpose, but also separates her from her friends and desires.

Stressed, driven, pining, important, excellent upper arm strength.

Smelly-Balls

Vocal Range: A2 - E3

Stage Age: 20 - 30

Presenting Gender: Male

A warrior, he does his part to serve and protect his family, that mostly means shouting at the sun. Smelly-Balls is a staple of his community with a soft side.

Ug ug, primitive, brave, likes to hit things with sticks, also likes slam poetry.

Chorn

Vocal Range: G3 - D5 (strong mix) C#5 - F5(head voice)

Stage Age: 20 - 30

Presenting Gender: ANY

The tribe’s strange half-human-half-ape presence. Apparently primitive and simple, grunting the monosyllabic ‘Chorn’, there is a concealed depth.

Comic, feral, grounded, tough, is also the infinitely intelligent alien deity who shapes humanity’s destiny.

Neanderthal

Vocal Range: F#3 - C#4

Stage Age: 20 - 30

Presenting Gender: Male

The mysterious stranger, appearing in moments of need to show a better way of life. Immediately charming, Ubermensch, striking, calm.

Comic, feral, grounded, tough, is also the infinitely intelligent alien deity who shapes humanity’s destiny.

NOTE: This role is an on stage cameo that requires amazing presence and charisma, appearing in act II.

However, this actor will operate the puppets and utilised throughout the show.
