High School Applications
High School Application Information will be distributed to 8th graders on Monday November 19th. Please check with your child for this important information. You can submit a paper or online application. If you complete the application online, please let the Guidance Counselor know and provide a confirmation # if you receive one.

SPECIALIZED HIGH SCHOOL EXAM INFORMATION
All 8th grade general education students (no ELL, no special education, no IEP, no 504 plans) who are interested in taking the Specialized High School Entrance Exam may report to Long Island City High School on October 20 or 21st at 8 A.M. with their IS 230 student ID.
All 8th grade ELL, special education, IEP, 504 plan students who are interested in taking the Specialized High School Entrance Exam may report to Long Island City High School on November 3rd or 18th at 8 A.M. with their IS 230 student ID.
High School Application Timeline
The High School Application process begins in the end of the 7th Grade.
7th Grade June - Students receive the High School Directory
July/ August - Review High School Directory
8th Grade September/October - Attend Borough and City-wide High School Fairs
Use High School Directory to check for open houses, tours, auditions, etc.
SHSAT Registration and LaGuardia Audition Registration
Students receive information regarding High School Applications
Parents attend IS 230 High School Workshop
Take the Specialized High School Admission (SHSAT) test . Use MySchools to register to audition and/or to schedule the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) by October 11, 2018.
November/ December - Complete High School Application online at the MySchools website. Contact Guidance Counselor for additional information.
High School Application Due Monday Dec. 3, 2018.
March - Round One Results distributed (includes SHS offer where applicable)
April-June - Round Two and new schools fair

In order to strengthen alignment of the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) to the instruction students receive in their classrooms, the DOE has made the updates to the ELA section of the SHSAT that will take effect beginning with the fall 2018 test administration.
