IS 230 is well equipped with technology to meet the needs of the 21st Century student. Our Main building has a Promethean Board or SmartBoard in every classroom. We have a computer lab and a library media center equipped with desktops for students' use. Students also have access to laptops in their classrooms. In the 6th grade Annex, there is a Promethean Board in every classroom. We have a library equipped with a station of iMac computers. Students also have access to laptops in their classrooms.
Students should be able to use a variety of digital resources and tools to communicate and collaborate with peers and other members of the I.S. 230 school community. The ability to use email and other online communication tools is a necessary skill in today’s advanced world. One of our goals is to prepare our students for the future by helping them become proficient users of information. This means understanding how to be effective digital citizens and properly utilizing technology to help further their education.
With this in mind, students have access to Google Apps for Education. Many students use their Google account as an online space to store all of their digital work. In Google Drive students can create Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Drawings and they are all stored on the web. Anywhere students have access to the Internet, they can access their work. Students will be able to work on projects at school and at home. Files in Google Drive will be shared so that teachers and students can collaborate.
Access to and use of the student’s Google Apps for Education account at I.S. 230 is considered a privilege afforded at the discretion of the instructor and administration. The Google Apps for Education and Email account is intended for school work only.
